We started our exploration of Lithuania with a few-day visit to Vilnius.
A beautiful city but what really amazed us is how friendly it is to tourists with dogs. Wherever I would go – cafes, restaurants, bakeries, asking if I could come in with my dogs, I invariably heard – of course!
Vilnius is amazing – the few days we spent there were definitely not enough to see everything worth seeing. The attack of winter with snowstorms was also not conducive to sightseeing.
A must-see place is of course the Gate of Dawn. The image of the Gate of Dawn impresses everyone.
The Old Town has many stunning monuments, you can walk around for hours.
It is also worth climbing to two unusual vantage points from which there is a wonderful panorama of Vilnius: Trzykrzyska Mountain.
and Gediminas Mountain.
For amateurs of delicious cuisine, we recommend the Prie Angelo restaurant.
As a curiosity – “our” restaurant was located in Zarzecze. In 1997, the independent “Republic of Užupis” was proclaimed here, which has more than a hundred citizens, has a constitution, a coat of arms and four flags – one for each season. It even has a military force of several dozen people and ambassadors scattered around the world.

I found the restaurant by accident. We are visiting Vilnius in a huge snowstorm and all my ankles are already shaking from the cold. I see the sign and go in. Bull’s-eye. Not only that the animals are loved and desired there (First the Devils from the Forest got water and then I got tea …) the food is delicious. There is something for both carnivores and vegetarians.
We went back there for lunch (and to warm up) every day during our stay. Prices as in Poland. We highly recommend.
In Lithuania, the most common question I asked was: “Can I come in with my dogs?” and I never heard “no”. A dreamland for pet owners.
